To all the writers out there, what do you think are some of the most important writing techniques? Feel free to give some suggestions on what works for you. Any rule is fine from fiction writing, poem writing or academic writing.

Techniques as in writing chapters in/out of order, or techniques as in character development and worldbuilding?

I don't really think you can improve someone's writing. it's kind of a natural flow and rhythm.
But try to make your words flow. write something, let it sit for a while, maybe a day and grow cold in your mind, then reread it. Does it seem interesting to you? Does it flow well?
English teachers like imagery. that's my experience anyway. In an english essay I'd throw in a tiny bit of imagery along side the accademic writing. It seemed to go over well. Just don't over do it.
As for poetry, you have to feel passion, feel rhythm and have a picture or a scene in your mind.
Longer stories still are a mystery to me. I guess you just have to picture yourself living the story, watch it like a movie in your head with yourself as the main character, and write what you see.
Don't know if any of this helps but...
